Why Some Islamic Kids Books Are Doing More Harm Than Good

Why Some Islamic Kids Books Are Doing More Harm Than Good

And What to Look for Instead

“It’s just a children’s story, right?”

That’s what many parents think — until their child starts quoting strange ideas, confusing concepts, or saying things like “Allah is everywhere.”

The truth is: not all Islamic children’s books are created equal. And while the pictures may be cute, the message can sometimes be misleading.

If you’re trying to raise your child with clear, correct understanding — here’s what you need to know.

1. The Problem With Mainstream Islamic Books

Many Islamic books for kids:

  • Contain stories without proper evidence

  • Use unclear language that confuses young minds

  • Introduce concepts that don’t align with the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah

  • Mention made-up holidays or cultural practices not found in Islam

And often, parents assume they’re safe — just because they say “Islamic” on the cover.

2. Why It Matters: Foundations Are Built Young

By age 7, many of a child’s core beliefs are already formed.

That’s why the Prophet said:

“Command your children to pray at seven…” (Abu Dawood)

If we delay teaching the basics about Allah, or teach them in a confusing way, we miss a crucial window.

Children remember what they hear. They absorb what they read.

So we have to be careful what we put in front of them.

3. What to Look for in a Children’s Islamic Book

When choosing books, make sure they:

  • Teach Pure Monotheism (Tawheed), not saint worship or veneration of graves

  • Stay close to the Qur’an and authentic hadith

  • Use clear, simple language that children can understand

  • Teach good manners, belief in Allah, and everyday Islamic life

  • Avoid exaggerations or false stories

  • Focus on values like honesty, gratitude, and kindness

4. What We Do at Tawheed Learning

That’s exactly why we started Tawheed Learning.

Our books are:

  • Authentically written, based on the Qur’an and Sunnah

  • Easy to read, with big pictures and short sentences

  • Designed to build love for Allah, good character, and strong belief

Books like:

  • Zayn Wonders About the World — exploring signs of Allah in nature

  • Huda Looks Up — teaching that Allah is above and always watching

  • Bilal Says Alhamdulillah — building gratitude in daily life

These aren’t just bedtime stories. They’re little seeds of truth for growing hearts.

Final Thought: It’s Not Just About Reading — It’s About Teaching Right

Books shape minds. Stories shape hearts.

Make sure what you give your child is based on truth, not trends.

Let their early memories of Islam be beautiful, accurate, and rooted in love.
